Unlike developer-introduced unintentional errors in software that lead to vulnerabilities, malware is deliberately seeded by attackers with malignant intent, usually packaged together with genuine executables, variously manifested as viruses, worms, surveillance software (spyware) and ransomware (where the threat agent takes control of your data and demands money to be able to get access back to your data).
